In Dark Passages, Tristan Morin is a vampire on a mission: to not fall in love with Karen Pierce. To do so would prove that humans and Brethren were meant to be physically and emotionally bound to each other -- something he, as a full-blooded Brethren, refuses to believe. It would be so much easier if Karen wasn't beautiful. And if there wasn't something about her that draws him like a moth to a flame, damn near impossible to resist.

Karen has always felt an inexplicable attraction to Tristan. More than just the fact he's strikingly handsome, it's as if being with him is something natural, comfortable and right. But soon a brash choice on his part leaves her heartbroken and confused, and a sadistic new enemy will put their tentative love -- and their lives -- to the ultimate test.

RATING:
SEXUAL:
Dee's Thoughts:
Tristan knows there is something about Karen that is hard to deny, but he feels he must. He catches her scent and it drives him wild. What does this lead to? A hot romp that he will never forget.

Karen can not believe she had finally made love to Tristan. However, he brushes her off the very next morning and practically throws her out of his house. Broken hearted, Karen decides she needs to let go of her love for Tristan. Maybe.

This was a good read. However, for me it felt like a secondary story, as if the main characters were missing. The romance was there and the story was good, but all to brief compared to the previous novels. I had gotten used to the twists of the series and this one was missing that special element.

Augustus Noble is a man with secrets. His entire life has been built on half-truths, betrayals and lies—desperate measures to keep the woman he loves, Eleanor Trevilian-Noble, as his own. The patriarch of the Brethren, he has struggled for centuries to create an empire of wealth and prestige for her. Now all that he has fought for is in jeopardy—his grandson Brandon has risked it all in a desperate bid for independence and freedom. And just as Augustus can’t allow Brandon to escape the ages-old traditions of the Brethren race, he also can’t let the Brethren—and especially his longtime nemesis—discover a truth that, if revealed, would see them all killed.

Eleanor’s Brethren birthright should have insured a life of longevity, while her marriage to the ruling clan should have guaranteed one of unsurpassed privilege and luxury. But a disease which has secretly been ravaging the Brethren for generations now afflicts her as well. Her prognosis is grim, her life all but forfeit. For nearly two hundred years, she has loved Augustus Noble, a shared passion that defied even the most sacred of Brethren laws. By that love, he forced her to leave; to protect her, he broke her heart. Now she must return to the sprawling expanse of Kentucky farmland she once called home, back to the Brethren compound to save not only her grandson but Augustus, as well. Because if she doesn’t—if she somehow should fail, then everything they know will be destroyed, including their love.(less)

Dee's Thoughts:

This novel is packed with exciting twists and turns. Another case of what you see isn’t always what you get. I like that! In this third installment I find myself connected to the world of the Brethren and everything starts falling into place.

I would term this series as deeply rooted. Some series you can pick up book 3 or 7 not having read the previous and be okay. With this series, in my opinion, you need to read in order. Each installment, thus far, is a continuation of the previous.

I am a lover of romance novels and I appreciate it when reviewers give me a heads up. So here is yours… this is a novel with a great storyline, yet there is very little romance/sexual encounters.

Cover- I love the cover!

Don’t let the beautiful cover or book description fool you; this is one thrilling paranormal romance book. I was very surprised with this extremely sexy vampire tale. I loved the historical elements and the setting of the book.  I enjoyed reading all the characters even the villain.

Lady Harley Windsor is a spy that is on the run with danger on her heals. She is looking for an admiral named Calvin Wright, to take her back home. Harley is very strong in spite her condition and very trusting, when it comes to her mate.

Calvin is an admiral of a flag ship called The Sea Ghost and he sails by night, why you ask? Well, he is a vampire. He has been looking for his mate for a long time, so when he finds Lady Windsor looking for him he finds signs she may be the one. There is one detail, she has a bad heart problem and is in need of it being fixed now or she may die. I loved reading both Calvin and Lady Windsor. These two find quite a bit of danger on their journey, at one point they both almost loose each other. This is an erotic paranormal romance, the first half you won’t find much, but look out it gets extremely hot!

I recommend this to any hot paranormal or historical reader.

As they travel, Rene feeds along the way, while Tessa struggles to resist the impulse to nourish herself.

Feeds The Darkest Needs.
Once in the storm-ravaged city of his birth, Rene's defenses begin to unravel, and Tessa is drawn to his more vulnerable side. Starving and spent with need, Tessa finally allows herself to feed off of Rene's own body, deepening the sensual attraction they share. Yet neither can afford to succumb to this desire. For Tessa and Rene are being followed-and a single misstep will put them at the mercy of forces more dark and powerful than even they can fight. If they are caught, the ecstasy of their newfound love will be matched only by the agony of its loss.
RATING:

Dee's Thoughts:

Rene is a proud man. When he loses his leg from the knee down and is forced to have a prosthetic that pride is put to the test. Rene is failing that test. He has begun to think of himself as less of a man, forcing himself into isolation and at times down right suicidal. When a pregnant Tessa comes into his life she makes him fell 100% M-A-N. Tessa shows Rene how much she desires him and Rene realizes the fact he has a prosthetic means nothing to her. Now with Tessa’s abusive husband on their trail Rene will risk anything to keep her and her baby safe and with him.

For me I found the second installment to this series even better than the first. Rene and Tessa’s relationship drew me in. The story line was well written and the author brings the world of the Brethren into a much clearer light. One thing I love is a story with a twist. Only thing I love more than a twist is one I NEVER saw coming and you get it in this novel.

Looking forward to Dark Passion. Can’t wait to see what Sara Reinke has up her sleeve for this one.

Hunters & Prey Synopsis
Katie Salidas Virtual Book Tour January 2011
Becoming a vampire saved Alyssa from death, but the price was high: the loss of everything and everyone attached to her mortal life. She’s still learning to cope when a surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum’s most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the friend she’s missed more than anything.
Alyssa breaks vampire law by revealing her new, true self to her old friend, a fact which causes strong division in the group that should support her most: her clan.
Worse yet, her revelation entangles Fallon in the struggle between vampires and hunters and The Acta Sanctorum is ready to attack again, with a new army of hybrid creations: the Frenzy Soldiers.
If Alyssa hopes to survive and keep her mortal friend safe, she’ll have to be willing to make a deal with the enemy, and regain her clan’s support. It will take everyone working together in a precarious truce to fight against the Acta Sanctorum’s new threat.

CHAPTER 1
*****

Hot blood coursed through my veins as I gulped down the gushing fountain of my victim’s neck.
He won’t be hurting women anymore. I thought to myself as I swallowed each hot mouthful of blood. How quickly the hunter becomes the prey.
Using the power of my mind, I sent him feelings: waves of pain and grief for the murder he had committed. The human mind was easy to control, and I called upon all the skill I possessed to make him suffer.
Murderers and those who dealt in crime and abuse were my prey. It was because of them, those vile individuals, that I was a vampire. Memories of my own near-death experience and echoes of past wounds fueled me.
As a vampire, I had power, the power to stop bad people from doing awful, evil things. Fate has a way of working things out, and it gave my bloodlust a purpose. If I was to be this creature, I would ensure that my feeding stopped the unnecessary deaths of innocents.
I drained him slowly and painfully, savoring the honey-sweet elixir of his blood. Keeping him alert enough to feel every draw against his neck, I gnawed at the wound with my sharp teeth and dug my nails into his flesh. I wanted him to feel everything. I wouldn’t let him go unconscious. He needed to know and understand the torment he had inflicted on others. I only wished I had found him, sooner before he ended the life of the poor woman lying at our feet. The fearful look in her dead eyes was a painful reminder of the men who had attacked me.
This man would pay with his dying breath.
My victim moaned pitifully. He beat against my back, struggling to free himself. I tightened my grip, locking his body in my deadly embrace.
He was going nowhere.
The heat from his blood coursed through my veins, strengthening me, warming me, giving me his life-energy. I savored this feeling: the tingling rush, the ecstasy, that filled my being.
Just as the wave of pleasure crested, his heart slowed to an erratic thump, and the gushing fountain became a trickle. I knew he wouldn’t last much longer. His blood pressure was dropping.
I lifted my head and gazed into his fear-filled eyes. “It’s no fun when you’re on the receiving end, is it?” I smiled at him, licking the last few drops of his blood from my fangs.
My head swam with energy—his energy. I felt powerful, strong, and just.
The wretched man was like putty—just a lump of mush—in my hands. Weakly, he exhaled a final dying breath. The light of life in his eyes extinguished. His head lolled and then flopped backward.
I listened carefully. His heart thumped once, twice, and then … nothing.
I bit my tongue and swirled a mix of my saliva and blood across the wound on his neck, ensuring it would close. The evidence of my feeding would be gone by the time anyone found him.
A strange prickling sensation tickled the back of my neck. The hair on my arms stood straight on end. I had come to know this unmistakable feeling quite well since I’d been turned. Another vampire was close.
I dropped my victim unceremoniously on top of the woman he’d just killed and turned around to scan the area. Though the street was dark, my vampire eyes had no problem spotting another pair of pale eyes staring back at me from the shadows.
A footstep broke the silence. Still young, I’d had limited dealings with other vampires. Not all were friendly. I hoped the one watching me would be.
“I know you’re out there,” I called to the darkness. “Show yourself.”
Raspy laughter crawled out of the shadow. “Are you sure you want me to do that, Alyssa?”
In the space of a second, realization hit me. My eyes went wide and my heart slammed into my chest.
Oh shit. Santino!
Another footstep echoed around me as he moved into the light.
A trademark of the vampire kind, his blue-gray eyes seemed to glow as he looked at me. A wild mane of salt-and-pepper hair jutted out in all directions on top of his head. Deep-creased wrinkles and scars covered an aged face that had seen many battles. His lips pulled back into a predatory smile, revealing a perfect set of sharp white fangs.
I was running before I could even comprehend the thought of it. I needed to get away. Fast.

***
As the sun began its ascent into the sky, I settled down, safely at home, preparing for sleep. But it wouldn’t come peacefully. Somewhere, trapped between the dreaming and waking world, I felt his presence. The cold, prickling sensation. It crawled up my spine and raised the hairs on the back of my neck.
Not again. I tried desperately to rouse myself. I knew what would come next.
As if on cue, those cold, emotionless, blue-gray eyes appeared above me. They locked on me with contempt.
Santino.
I’d dreamt of him for weeks after our last battle. I thought I had finally escaped the daymares that had haunted me, but now they were back.
I knew every scar on that fearsome face, though I wished I didn’t. I’d met him only once before, and against the odds, I’d lived to talk about it. That was something only a handful could claim. Santino was not one to leave anyone alive once he’d set his sights on them.
I willed myself to wake. But, just as before, the dream continued.
His piecing gaze bore into my skull. I was motionless; my body barely held the strength to gasp for air. Laid out like an offering, I was an easy target, ready to be slaughtered.
If I could have screamed I would have, but I was mute, destined to see the events unfold as they had when I had lived through them.
Santino’s mouth formed a sinister smile. The tips of his fangs poked out from behind his lips, but I knew it was not his teeth I should fear.
Stuck again in this nightmare, I tried in vain to will myself awake. Paralysis had me frozen in place, helpless. Slowly, he reached out, grabbing my head, balling up a fistful of my hair. Strands snapped under his grip, pinching and pulling away from my scalp.
I needed to break free from his grasp. I needed to somehow get out of this dream.
Fear gripped me. He rocked my head from one side to the other, inspecting me. Would this finally be the time? Would he finally kill me? His eyes focused on my neck.
Wake up, damn it!
“Not going to be much of a fight, are you?” he said, pulling out his knife—a large thick blade with jagged edges. Blood from his last kill still coated it.
He made the sign of the cross and mumbled a prayer under his breath.
I willed my muscles to listen. Move, I yelled in my head. Move, damn it. Wake up!
My heart beat wildly, thundering in my ears as Santino’s eyes opened and focused on me once more. Disgust flashed across his face, as if I were a mangy animal and it was beneath him to have to put me down. His lips again formed that sinister sneer. I shuddered. His gaze was like ice, sending a shiver slithering down my spine to the churning pit of my stomach.
He exhaled a growling breath that echoed in the room as he placed the cold, heavy blade to my neck.

***
No!
I awoke with a start, shooting upright in bed. My heart pounded, and my chest heaved with each sharp breath.
Disorientation fogged my vision. I struggled to compose myself and come back into reality.
It’s over, he’s gone.
If this had been merely a bad dream, the sight of my room and Lysander sleeping next to me would have been immediate comforts, but this wasn’t just a dream. Those events were real. Re-living my first run in with Santino seemed to be my curse. The memories haunted me, playing out every detail of that bloody night, ending just before Santino attempted to finish me off.
He’d nearly destroyed my entire clan that night. I shuddered at the thought of him. Santino was well known as the Acta Sanctorum’s best hunter—a vampire who made a career of killing his own kind. He and his team of hunters had tracked down and destroyed the largest coven of vampires known to exist.
He killed their leader, Kallisto, right before my eyes. I was supposed to have been next on his hit list. If it hadn’t been for Lysander and the aid of our friends in the Peregrinus clan, I would have died.
I was lucky to have gotten away, and Lysander had almost paid for my escape with his life. Everyone assumed Santino either dead or too weak after that battle to continue his hunt.
Deep down, I felt differently.

I think it suits the series and I love the blue.

In the First and Last Nexi finds herself a new title and as the leader of the underworld, as she is struggling with learning about and leading the underworld she finds she has new powers along with new enemies, so you know things are going to heat up in battle. This is a good ending for this series and I must say I am very sad to see it go, so I am hope Stacey will come up with something, so we can read about this couple from time to time. If you’re a regular The Magical Sword reader don't miss this book. Stacey did an excellent job with this whole series.

I loved the plot and the new underworld characters. I simply loved how Nexi and Kyden spent their honeymoon night OMG, it was hot. I enjoyed the fight Nexi has with the Devil and what came after that. Nexi accomplishes a lot for her underworld people. As far as Nexi’s cat Willow goes, there is a time that she is * clears throat* well how do I say it, the poor cat is totally in a compromising position, it was really bad, so bad, as I was reading I was laughing so hard I was crying.

The downside for me was at times Nexi can be silly and there was a few times in this installment I found it a little over the top. I also know there will be a lot of you that will really enjoy it. Especially when you read about Nexi going around naked. O.K. I am done, if you want to know more you’ll just have to start or finish this series to see what kind of trouble Nexi can get into.

When Brandon Noble and Angelina Jones first met, he was an awkward teenager harbouring a crush on his tutor's sister. Five years later, Angelina is a streetwise cop who's sure she's seen it all, until Brandon comes back into her life - lean, handsome, possessing a strange, powerful allure...and a terrifying secret. "Dark Desires" - Brandon is one of the Brethren, an ancient clan of ruthless vampires. Like other Brethren families, the Nobles have accumulated great wealth and prestige, never marrying outside of their kin, never leaving the isolated Kentucky farmlands where they live, undetected, among their prey. Horrified by his birthright, Brandon shunned the ritual of the first kill, earning the Brethren's lasting wrath. But the exhilarating passion he and Angelina share rouses the primitive impulses he has tried so hard to deny. And even if Brandon can protect Angelina from his enemies, can he save her from his own dark thirsts?

RATING:

Dee's Thoughts:

Brandon Noble is part of the Brethren, vampires. A childhood attack left Brandon mute and deaf. Brandon’s Grandfather and siblings see Brandon as a “disgraceful blight” to the family due to his weaknesses. However, his Grandfather insists on pushing him to go through bloodletting which will lead Brandon to kill. A killer Brandon is not and after the bloodletting Brandon escapes his family and fights the bloodlust.

Along the way Brandon is reunited with an old crush, Lina. However, that crush has evolved into lust and a taste of her he must have. With his family out to punish him and kill Lina, Brandon finds there is more to his race than meets the eye, but is it to little to late?

I love an alpha male. A dark alpha male even better but for me Brandon’s past contains to much torture, torment, and abuse. Lina on the other hand is a strong heroine, and I appreciated her character. The world of the Brethren has potential and I am looking forward to seeing what the next novel holds.

Interview with author Ashlyn Chase

Aurthur Ashlyn Chase interview for her paranormal romance series, Strange Neighbors.

Laurie-Hello Ashlyn. Thank you so much for doing the interview. Would you please tell us a little about yourself?

A.C.--That’s always a hard question. Well, one thing I tend to write about is something I do myself. I write characters who reinvent themselves, and as such I reinvent myself from time to time. I try to keep growing and improving my writing craft and my life. I’m almost perfect now. (Laughs)

Do you have a favorite place you go to write?

A.C.—I’m someone who can’t handle distractions. I have a quiet office in my daughter’s old bedroom. Note to anyone with kids, moaning about not having time or space to write…if you do your job right, they grow up and leave you an office.

Laurie-What or how has inspired you most to write?

A.C. –A few years ago, both of my parents were terminally ill at the same time. A fellow nurse knew what I was dealing with and handed me a book, saying, “Here. Read this.” I was well into the sequel before I realized it was a romance novel! Yes, I was one of those snobs who thought romance novels were trash. Thank God for trash! Reading romance novels saved my sanity during that emotional time. I had always wanted to be a writer. As soon as I discovered the genre, I knew what I wanted to write. I hoped to give back the healthy escape I received and pay it forward.

Laurie-What are some of your favorite paranormal romance books?

A.C. –It’s no secret I love the funny ones. Mary Janice Davidson, Katie MacAlister, Gerry Bartlett, Angie Fox... In fact, when asked who I’m most like I say, “If Mary Janice Davidson and Katie MacAlister had a baby , that would be me.

Laurie-Your light paranormal romance series Strange Neighbors is an apartment building full of different paranormal creatures. It’s such a creative idea. Would you please share how you came up with this series?

A.C.—A combination of ideas hit me at the same time. I heard my favorite quarterback (Tom Brady) owned a condo building in Boston. I used to live in the same neighborhood and began thinking of my old apartment buildings. While talking to a couple of friends about apartment living in the city and old neighbors, the idea of a building that attracts paranormal misfits occurred to me. I brainstormed it with those friends, and Strange Neighbors became a viable idea. A brief proposal sold it to an interested editor and I hired an agent to help me read the 15 page contract.

Laurie-Can you share with us a little about the tenants living there?

A.C. Sure, there’s an unemployed vigilante vampire squatting in the basement; a wereraven on the first floor; an overly friendly werewolf on the second floor and across the hall is a Gladys Kravitz style building manager. The third floor houses a pair of witches who work from home as phone sex actresses. Our hero and landlord occupies the penthouse. The blurb shows how he fits in:
Hunky all-star pitcher and shapeshifter Jason Falco invests in an old Boston brownstone apartment building full of supernatural creatures, and there’s never a dull moment. But when Merry MacKenzie moves into the ground floor apartment, the playboy pitcher decides he might just be done playing the field…

Sexy Jason seems like the perfect fling, but newly independent nurse Merry’s not sure she’s ready to trust him with her heart…especially when the tabloids start trumpeting his playboy lifestyle.
Then pandemonium breaks loose and Merry and Jason will never get it together without a little help from the vampire who lives in the basement and the werewolf from upstairs…

Laurie-Are you going to or thinking about writing a book for each tenant living in the building?

A.C.-- Book 2 is called The Werewolf Upstairs, and begins when Merry’s best friend, Roz, moves into her old apartment. Book three is called The Vampire Next Door. Don’t ask why my publisher insisted on “next door” instead of in the basement, but she did. Marketing reasons I think. That concludes the series, but don’t worry…there’s a happy ending for all.

Laurie-Can you give a hint of what will happen to the ghost Chad?

A.C. --He gets nicer. As time goes on and he grows fonder of the other tenants (not that he’d admit it to them) he begins to think about his Karma. Perhaps he’s been left behind without a white light or tunnel for a reason? Maybe if he’s nicer, more helpful, he can move on. Maybe, you’ll have to read the rest of the series to find out. (wink)

Laurie-Do you have a favorite character in the building?

A.C. --Good question. I became very fond of Gwyneth, one of the witches. I loved her southern expressions and how “human” she was. I wasn’t planning to write a book for her, so I made sure she got her happy ending too. It sounds as if you’re fond of Chad. I love him too. I enjoy having a character who spits out exactly what he’s thinking without much of a filter. It’s a great comedic tool.

Laurie-Do you write anything of yourself into your heroines?

A.C.-- Thomas Wolfe once said, “Every novel is an autobiography.” I can relate to that for the most part. We have backgrounds and experiences unique to us. Most of us draw heavily on that experience whether we realize it or not. For instance, I’m a nurse and have written 3 heroines who are nurses. I didn’t even realize I was doing it. Other people’s professions and experiences have wound up in my books. Moral of this story? Be careful what you say to a writer. *snicker* You’ll find some of these stories behind the story in my dedications or acknowledgements.

Laurie-I see you also write erotic romance. I am hosting a paranormal erotic reading challenge. Would you give us some suggestion from your erotic romance books that would be good to read for this challenge?

A.C.—I guess the length might decide it for you since I’m proud of all my paranormal romances. The longest is Vampire Vintage. It’s a ‘novel plus’ at 76,000 words. (Long for an ebook, shorter than many novels.) Next paranormal in length is Wonder Witch, considered a short novel at 45,000 words. Being Randy is a Novella. Right on the line between short story and novella is Oh My God and Djinn and  Tonic. I love them both, but especially Oh My God. It was nominated for a Capa and an Eppie award, but hasn’t ben read by many because it’s with my British publisher, Total-e-Bound. It’s part of a print anthology or comes separately as an ebook. www.total-e-bound.com Look under Humor, there are very few titles listed. (Because it’s a hard genre to write!)

Totally Wicked! Outstanding!

This book can be described in many ways, it was wicked, religiously spiritual, demonic possessed, thrillingly scary, and exciting at the same time. The story line was great, I love the true nature of a were-wolf being associated with the Native Americans.

The twist where one out of the tribe turns to Christianity and leaves his pack to teach the word of God because of atoning for his guilt of having to kill for survival just blows my mind. However it was sad when he came back to make amends with his pack and find them wiped out/burned to ash except for a few.

The romance was bitter sweet and the sexual erotica scene was Hot as the two alpha's fight over a mate even in the end as the demon takes possession of one. This was the first time I read of an event of using the Native American shaman spirits and Christianity spiritual calling of the lord to call forth the demon to find out his plan and then cast him back into hell.

I am happy that in this third book of the series that the mystery of the demon and the Devils Tavern is revealed and will finally be unfolding soon. Brilliant writing!

This is a good cookbook to have on your cookbook self if you like southern cooking. I live in the south, so I must confess this is very much how I cook. I tried some of these recipes and a couple didn’t fly with me or the family, I had one went over very well, it was the slow cooker pot roast, I used pork instead of beef and it turned out very tender and tasted wonderful. My biggest disappointment is there are no pictures, other than what’s on the cover. You can find 115 recipes from sweet tea to southern deserts. I myself will be buying this one, so I can try more recipes in the future.

Review Evangeline by Gwen Williams

Title:Evangeline
Author:Gwen Williams
Source :Netgalley
Genre: erotic historical romance
Authors website

Paul Rumsfeld, a lonely, rich, widower, seeks Evangeline's hand in marriage. He is her first real marital prospect, as the entire village considers her damaged goods. Rumors abound about the way Evangeline and her sister Rose Red, serviced the Black Bear who resided at their hearth during one particularly hard, bitter winter. Evangeline did no such thing, but no man pays her court. She accepts Paul's offer to marry him, while trying to ignore the vile gossipmongers' talk in the village that Paul's last four wives died under bizarre-and troubling-circumstances. Is Paul a Bluebeard, or is he an innocent man? Evangeline trusts her husband implicitly, but the rumors are hard to ignore.

They marry and she travels with him to his marvelous villa on the sea. Once there, she is introduced to the household servants, including the grim and reproving Mathilda. Mathilda is a formidable opponent, and it takes all of Evangeline's guile and resources to outmaneuver the imperious maidservant. Evangeline soon finds herself with child, and with the support of the midwife, she begins to exert her will. Out with the restricting corsets and stays! Evangeline has no desire to confine her body to the dictates of fashion. She wants her baby to be healthy and strong, and the only way to do that is to ensure her own comfort. Mathilda is horrified, but cannot bend Evangeline to her will.

At the same time, Evangeline is attempting to breach the citadel that is her husband's broken heart. Paul honestly cannot say how it has come to pass that he is the widower of four deceased wives, each one expiring under odd and distressing circumstances. As a result, he has locked down his heart to any further intimacy. He is half-convinced that Evangeline shall also die, and it would be unbearable if he were to allow her into his heart.

This is a very interesting read, I did enjoy reading most of it. There is murder, betrayal, danger, emotions and some steamy hot sex. I figured out the mystery right off the bat and I found one other thing to be a turn off in the book, it’s a spoiler, so if you don’t want to read this part please skip. After Evangeline has her baby they want to cook her after birth and let her eat it….They tell her this is how cows does it…….. EWW, I have read some historical and never came across a line quite like that and I don’t think I want to read it again, Gross!! Spoiler stop.

Paul has a bad reputation and his wives are dying on him. He goes for wife number 4 hoping Evangeline would be able stay alive and bring him children. I liked how Evangeline and Paul had to learn to love and trust each other. I also really liked how Paul changed his ways in order to keep Evangeline alive no matter what. This is a different read and one I would suggest to any historical romance reader spite the fact comments in first paragraph.

Totally Captivating and HOT!

I love the way this author writes, it’s so smooth that you’re done reading it before you even look up to take a breath. The story captured me right away with Nathan the vampire who actually turns into a bat to fly from place to place and to top it off, he is a ghost hunter. The romance erotica was plentiful and had me glancing looks at my husband waiting for the perfect time so I could act like a frog and pounce on him. Josephine’s character captured my heart right away when I learned of her dying illness.

Between the romance, the ghost hunt in grave yards, the insight to a vampires life, the demon possessed creepy stalker and vampire hunter Harold, and the evil demon spiritual presence that gave me the heebee jeebees, this book left me excitedly thrilled and semi-scared – warning, don’t read this before you go to bed, I tossed and turned thinking about if or when there might be a demon presence lurking around. The HEA was great as it left you in suspense leading you into the third book “Devil’s Tavern III: Possession” in the series.

The Painful Distinction between a Person and “People”

In the first book of my Awakening series, VISIONS OF MAGIC, Shea Jameson is on the run for her life. She lives in a modern-day world that burns witches at a steel stake on a gas-powered grid. Her aunt was the first to die, but there have been many more in the ten years since. Shea has just learned in the most horrific way possible that she is a witch. Like it or not, her powers are awakening.

But where can you run when Society is your enemy?

Writing VISIONS OF MAGIC gave me a chance to explore one of the dark truths of human nature: Individually, we can be generous and forgiving, understanding and kind. Collectively, we can be monstrous.

All too often, fear rules us. We accept innuendo as fact without bothering to investigate for ourselves.

What would you do if your best friend was accused of witchcraft, in a world where witches are put to death? Would you risk your own life to protect her? Would you risk your family’s lives? What if the accused wasn’t a friend, but the mother of an innocent child who turns to you for help? What would you do then? Shea faces that problem in VISIONS OF MAGIC. Helping the child will bring unwanted attention to Shea, but turning her back on the girl goes against everything Shea believes in.

I understand the fear that drives human behavior. We want to protect our loved ones, and we live in terror that there are some things beyond our control.

In VISIONS OF MAGIC, witches are real, and people are inundated on the 24-hour news stations with tales of their evil acts and near constant warnings about the latest threats. In this excerpt from Chapter 1 of VISIONS OF MAGIC, you’ll witness for yourself the terrifying awakening of Shea’s powers:

[The junkie] pulled a knife as if he sensed she was hesitating. “Give me the money now.”

Shea shook her head and when he reached for her again, she instinctively lifted both hands as if to push him off and away. But she never made contact with him. She didn’t need to. A surge of energy suddenly pulsed through her and shot from

her fingertips. As a whoosh of sound erupted, the man in front of her erupted into flames.

Shea stared up at him, horrified by what was happening. By what she’d done. His screams tore through the air as he tried to run from the fire. But it only fed the flames consuming him and as his shrieks rose higher and higher, Shea staggered to her feet, glanced down at her hands and shuddered.

That’s when she heard it.

The chanting.

Over the sounds of the dying man’s cries, voices roared together, getting louder and louder as she was surrounded. One word thundered out around her, hammering at her mind and soul, reducing her to a terror she hadn’t known in ten years.

She looked up into the faces of her students’ parents as they circled her. People she knew. People she liked. Now though, she hardly recognized them. Their features were twisted into masks of hatred and panic and their voices joined together to shout their accusation.

“Witch! Witch! Witch!”

Think about that. This crowd of ordinary citizens has watched their children’s teacher set fire to a human being. They’ve watched the man scream and writhe in agony. They’ve smelled his burning flesh, they’ve felt the heat from the flames … and they’re afraid they’re next. Or worse yet, their children.

They don’t understand that despite what happened, Shea is a good person. She didn’t intend to set the man on fire. He attacked, and her body reacted instinctively in self-defense.

In Shea’s world, intent doesn’t matter. The Magic Police and the Federal Bureau of Witchcraft don’t believe there is any such thing as a “good witch.” When witchcraft is suspected, the woman is imprisoned, and untold innocents have been caught up in Society’s fervor.

Shea has a secret weapon in her corner – her sexy Eternal, a warrior who has protected her through many lifetimes so that he can claim her as his mate when her powers awaken. Shea doesn’t want to be a witch, she doesn’t want to have an immortal mate. She just wants to be a normal woman and to live her life without fear.

Even witches don’t always get what they want.

Have you ever found yourself spreading rumors that you later discovered were false? Forwarded emails? Can you think of an example where Society behaved badly because of fear? Was that fear motivated by reality or innuendo? What are some other books in which Society was the antagonist?

Brilliantly Written! HOT HOT HOT!

WOW! The steam is sizzling and rolling off this book. This story brings a whole new level to the Angelic and Demonic World when it comes to sex. This was such a short 85 pages and fast read, I just couldn’t put it down. For those of you who are interested in how Fallen Angels lose their faith and succumb to the evil ways then you will love this book.

Even though Emera is a Fallen Angel, she battles with her conflict between good and evil while the wicked demon Sebastian claims her though his BDSM ways and forces her to surrender to her demon side. The things Sebastian did with his demonic tail is wickedly arousing and had me crossing my legs.

However, Emera holds on to that single light of the human love “Keenan”, a man she once had before Sebastian destroyed him along with a little light of memory of heavenly garden. But what Sebastian doesn’t know is that the heavens above give Keenan a choice in the afterlife of either take his place in the heavens or become a Demon Catcher. Keenan takes the choice of becoming a Demon Catcher with conditions of him being able to find his love, his angel and save her. From there the story blooms.

The story line is fantastically written and I was totally memorized with all the action. The ending had a great HEA which continues the story on into the next book “Devils Tavern II: Vengeance” of this new series.

Cover: I LOVE IT!!

Put this book on your top most wanted to be read list for 2011!! Visions of Magic is a dark paranormal romance, that’s wickedly sexy and filled with magic, it made for a phenomenal read. It’s the first book to an Awakening witch series. I found the Witch and Eternal storyline fastening, and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next. There is a lot to take in, but the author explains everything along the way and made it easy to understand.

Come and read about a witch named Shea. Her aunt was burned at the stake and now she is on the run in fear that she will be next. You see this world is different from ours, there are witches and witch hunters and they don’t care if your a witch or not, they will take any woman that they think to be a witch. Oh yea, the Salem witch trials are back with a twist. Shea has something going for her. It’s her Eternal soul mate Torin. He watches over her each century for her to come into her Awakening, so he can claim her as his mate and help her fulfill her destiny. But for Shea to get to her destiny she enters a world of danger, magic and spells. Will history repeat itself or can Shea change it? You’ll have to read and find out.

The sex its very hot. There is one shower scene that was very different and very sexy. As you see on the cover Shea has a tattoo, just wait until you read how she gets this on her body.

I loved all the characters even the villain they all seem to fit into place.
I recommend this to any paranormal or erotic romance reader that loves witches. Now, I just hope I can hold out for the next book…. UGH!.

Here is a teaser for you.
You‘re a witch. I‘m your Eternal. It‘s as it has been between us since the beginning.
She breathed deep, drawing in the fading scent of the ocean as they raced in the opposite
direction, headed God knew where. It was too much. All of it. Her Eternal. Centuries. Magic.
How was she supposed to make sense of this? How was she supposed to know what to do? If her memories were true, then she had made the wrong call before. What was to prevent her from doing it again?

This book was so good it receives the Top Bite award!

As a romance reader, I was very impressed with Claiming the Evil Dead. This book holds both Urban Fantasy and Paranormal romance elements, so you get to be able to enjoy both genres together. I loved the characters and the idea of a heroine holding the power to take out evil in a way that is very impressive. This story has danger, adventure, and some extra tension by a hot demon.

Jessie is a paranormal investigator; she has ability from her demon half side that takes care of evil ghost. Drake needs help to take a very evil vampire, so he hires Jessie to help him do this. While these two start their adventure in hunting down the vampire things heats up between Drake and Jessie. As things heat up between these two there is an added demon named Jeremy and he will do anything to take Jessie away from Drake.
The plot is very interesting on how Jessie takes out the evil, it held my attention.

For paranormal romance lovers, you’ll find a romance between Drake and Jessie and some hot sex scenes. And you’ll find a good happy ending. This is a start of a great new series and one I highly recommend. I can’t wait for the next book......

Fantastic Read! HOT!

Dinosaur - Allosaurus - Al

Wow, what a great follow up to Eternal Pleasure. This God’s of Night series just gets better and more exciting. I couldn’t put the book down because I just had to know what was going to happen next. These dinosaurs are awesome and so savagely sexy with just one look deep into their eyes and they have you stripped and pounding into your heat in a beastly ravaging feast (imagining and licking my lips – time for a cold shower). Al and Jenna’s romance was very adventurous and I loved how it threw them together.

Dinosaur - Utahraptor - Triplets - Utah - Rap - Tor

The story was great and was shocked when one of the Utahraptor dinosaurs died, it was so sad. The characters interaction between each other was very humorous and I actually laughed out loud. The vampires and were-wolves were very entertaining and the description of the Houston head vampire was scrumptious. I like how the story moved from Houston, TX to Philadelphia, PA and surprisingly I knew exactly some of the areas where the events happened which was totally awesome that I could relate where they were.

Dinosaur - Tyrannosaurus - Ty the T-Rex

After just reading these two stories in the series I had to go look the dinosaurs photos up on line and get a good visual and imagination of what they would look like tromping up the steps that “Rocky” ran up in Philly. After viewing the photos it totally put the story more into perspective. Enjoy the photos.
