What do you get when you mix an Etruscan Goddess and a Cimmerian warrior together? You get loads of trouble and lots of hot sexy fun. What a Goddess Wants is a fascinating hot book and one no erotic paranormal romance reader should miss. I couldn’t put it down. I loved all the mythology and fun Stephanie added to this book. The storyline has adventure, danger, suspense and lots of animalistic sex *still fanning self* (there’s one scene has anal intercourse.) This book has some fantastic mythological characters that Stephanie can run on for a while.

I enjoyed both Tessa and Caligo. Caligo just got burned from another Goddess, so when he finds Tessa in his home a sleep he never thought about getting in deep with another goddess. But one taste of Tessa he just can’t help himself he hast to give her what she wants. Tessa is running for her life and need some help to keep her alive ,so she turns to a friend that leads her to Caligo. She has lived a very long time and no one has ever temped her or raised her heat like Caligo, but can this hero keep her safe enough or will she loose her life no matter what he does. Oh yeah, you have to read to see how deep these two can get into. Stephanie is known for her surprises in a story, so be prepared for some shocking mouth dropping reading. Now, I have to go bug her to see who is in the next book. So get this one on your list and read it ASAP.

*Fans self* This was one hot book, so you guys know what that means. LOL

Dragon Bound sizzling hot paranormal romance that should be on top of any RNR readers to be read pile. Yep, this should be your next book. If you love to read humor, danger, action, a dominating male dragon and some of the hottest sizzling hot sex well this is a must next read. I probably wouldn’t have read this book yet, but I got an email from a follower telling me how much she loved it. I have to say a big thanks to her because I know I would have never gotten around to reading this so soon.

Boy, you’re in for a ride with this story with one extra special half human and half wyr, names Pia that steals from an OCD harboring dragon that knows what little thing she took out of this next and he will not rest until he finds the one who stole from him. The author makes this a fun but yet dangerous adventure for this two they get their moments of wild pleasure then they are back in fighting action again.

What I like most in this PNR book was Dragos is not your typical PRN character. Nope, he isn’t a lovie dovie dragon, this dragon is a hot arrogant, dominating, outrageous male dragon that has an OCD problem with the things in his nest.

I myself had a problem with the heroine, Pia, she is very strong, but she got on my nerves for a time. She is the one who dragged Dragos in this dangerous adventure, but she takes her time in trusting him in what simple things he asks from her. Then I found out why she was having a hard time in that trust when the author throws in a surprise of what Pia really is. it’s a huge spoiler that I am not going to tell you’ll have to read it to find out.

Last, but not least this is one of the hottest two couplings I have read in a while. The sexual tension is awesome and the sex is super-hot. So, now go buy this one and read it NOW!

Blurb:

Three days before her twenty-fourth birthday, Katherine Gregory receives a letter from her deceased mother. It details a faery curse in which the eldest child in each generation will die in their twenty-fifth year.

Three days before her twenty-fourth birthday, a new love interest comes knocking, and her first love has returned - neither men are what they seem, and Katherine may have to choose between them.

Three days before her twenty-fourth birthday, Katherine must decide if this is all real, or if the strange visions she's been having are just a figment of her imagination.

The race to unravel the mystery begins, and Katherine must solve it - for any day after her birthday could be her last.

Chapter 1
A letter came by registered mail.
It was from my mother.
Had she not been dead for three months, it might have seemed less odd.
The return address was care of the lawyer she had chosen to settle her affairs, but there was no mistaking the handwriting. The circular perfection of the “o” in Joan Gregory was unmistakable.
I signed for the letter and thanked the courier, sending him on his way even though he lingered in the doorway. I don’t know if he was looking for a tip or waiting for me to play with his, but either way it wasn’t happening. I closed the door, perhaps a little too eagerly, and jiggled the envelope. Something slid around inside.
It wasn’t like my mother to send something so late. The woman had conducted her affairs like she had everything else in life — calculated, efficient. I wasn’t sure what she could be sending so long after her passing. More than likely it had gotten lost in the lawyer’s office, and they’d just remembered to send it now.
I plunked myself on the futon. The frame moaned a little — its time with me as a university student had not been kind.
As I hacked open the envelope a key dropped to the parquet floor. A crisp letter awaited me, its message blunt.

Dear Katherine,

The key is to open a safety deposit box. The branch address and contact information is attached as well as the necessary legal papers granting you access. You will want to open it before your twenty-fourth birthday.

Sincerely,
Joan Gregory

I tried not to roll my eyes at the fact she had formally signed the letter instead of the usual, ‘Your Mother’.
A sigh escaped my lips. My twenty-fourth birthday was three days away. So it seemed her timing was impeccable.
I sat for a moment, looking over the letter. Dancing around the back of my mind was the thought that this might be karma. Not the good kind either.
The woman had left me nothing. Everything had been bequeathed to my brother, Geoffrey, with the exception of some shack in England. And that was only left to me because it was always handed down to the eldest child.
I wish I could say that Geoff had shared some of his inheritance with me, but he’d kept it all. My mother had managed to successfully drive a wedge between my brother and me growing up — to the point that we rarely spoke now.
I didn’t mourn her passing.
I suppose that’s where the karma was coming back to bite me.
I lay back on the sofa, stuffing a ratty throw pillow under my head.
What the hell would she leave me in a box?
As I pondered what plan the woman could have concocted, I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. I whipped my head in its direction. All I saw was the plant — a wilting ficus. The glance was instinctual — like when you think something’s there; like when you feel something is watching you; or worse, like when you’re convinced you saw a figure in the shadows, but you turn and it’s not there.
Most people can brush it off.
I can’t.
I waited. For what exactly, I wasn’t sure, but I suppose I was expecting to catch sight of something that wasn’t really there. The pause had to have been nothing more than half a second, but it’d felt like ten. At the end of that seemingly prolonged moment I made a beeline for the kitchen. I tore through the cupboards searching for where I’d left my meds.
Beside the cans of ravioli, the empty bottle waited.
Trifluoperazine — it was the only thing that helped.
The notion something was always looking over my shoulder had gotten worse lately. Hallucinations, the doctor had said. They’d become more frequent since my roommate’s brother had brought that blasted plant.
It seemed odd I would blame a plant, but leafy greenness and I were not friends. Plants put me on edge. I was trying to let the thing die while Natalie was on vacation. I figured she’d be a little disappointed when she returned, but so be it. I couldn’t have a plant in here.
I had another look at the ficus.
Fortunately, there was nothing there. At its foot lay three dead leaves. I left them.
At that point the phone rang.
Although it startled me, I was relieved to be jerked back to reality. I shook my head, and tried to settle my nerves with a deep breath. Then I grabbed the cordless.
Coincidentally, it was Chris — the guy who’d brought the plant.
I hate coincidences. I almost didn’t answer, but he was a friend. And I tend not to think as clearly as I should around cute men with broad shoulders.
“Hello?” I managed to choke into the receiver.
“Hi, Katherine?” said the voice on the other end of the line. His voice was like warm sugar.
“Oh, hey Chris, Natalie’s not here. She’s on vacation.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“Oh, did she call you? Does she need something?”
“No. I was calling for you.”
“Did I miss practice?” We played rugby together and I was pretty good about making practice regularly. But lately, my mind wasn’t where it should be. Again, I blamed the plant.
“No,” he said. There was an awkward silence. “Um, I was just wondering if you wanted to go for coffee or something. With Natalie gone, I thought you might want some company.”
Now, there was a surprise.
It wasn’t the first time Natalie had disappeared for a prolonged period. In fact, she was rarely ever around. When she’d answered the ad for a female roommate, I never thought I’d have it so good. She paid her half of the rent and was almost never here.
I wasn’t sure what her brother's motives were, but something seemed a little odd.
Chris was way out of my league.
And I mean way.
I play rugby and field hockey, so I’m not all that thin. My curly hair makes me look like Medusa on good days, and like I’d stuck my finger in a socket on the rest. I don’t generally wear makeup and I dress in what I like to call comfortable clothing. I don’t do demure and quiet. And I’m pretty sure I reek of man-repellent.
That said, I did need some company.
Besides, getting away from that plant in the corner wouldn’t hurt either.
“Uh, sure,” I said. “When?”
“How about now?” he asked.
There was a knock at the door.
My breath got stuck in my throat.
Please don’t let that be him.
I walked to answer it, curious if it was him, but hoping it wasn’t. It was a bit stalker-ish for my liking, even if he was cute.
As I approached the door the ficus was calling my attention again. Like a magnet, it drew my eyes towards it.
I nearly choked at what was there. I blinked, hoping it was just a reflection or trick of the light. Unfortunately, it was no use.
Standing by the tree was a hairy, little green man with enormously large hands.
I cursed myself for not having refilled my meds.
Not a good time for a mental breakdown, Katherine. Pull it together.
Chris cleared his throat on the other end of the phone, waiting for me to answer his question. The knock on the door got heavier. And the little man was motioning me towards him.
I’m usually pretty good about picking my priorities, even under pressure. The first thing I needed to do was deal with Chris. It was only seconds I’d left him hanging there, but it couldn’t have been making much of an impression.
“Uh, now’s not good,” I managed to say. “Eight o’clock okay?”
I figured I would accomplish two things by putting him off until later. First, it allowed me to deal with whoever was hammering on my door. Second, it bought me some needed time to address the little problem that was perched under the ficus.
There was hesitation on the other end of the phone before Chris finally said, “Yeah, that sounds fine. Casey’s okay?”
The pounding on the door got more insistent.
“No, Woody’s has better pool tables.”
“Sounds good,” he said.
I hung up, a little too quickly.
Next was the door.
I looked through the peephole.
It was my brother, Geoff. I was sort of glad it was him. Surprised, but glad.
“One sec!” I called. “I’m not decent!”
I lied, but the knocking stopped which bought me a moment.
The last problem was a conundrum. My psychiatrist said I shouldn’t entertain whatever fanciful creations my imagination could conjure. He advised me to take my meds and then imagine whatever I was seeing to disappear.
I was operating sans meds here, and I couldn’t just scream at it to go away since Geoff was on the other side of the door. He’d heard enough of my raving lunacy as a kid. He didn’t need to relive that all over. I tried to make shooing motions with my hands, hoping that what I was seeing would take the hint that it wasn’t wanted.
I even shook my head a couple of times as if rattling my brain around in my skull might help.
That didn’t work either.
The little man became more insistent and then pointed to something at the base of the plant with his meaty fingers. I had to step closer to see it. A lot closer.
I was about two feet away when I noticed what was resting there — an earring. An earring with an emerald.
The little man said nothing, but motioned for me to take it.
The earring was my own, one I’d had since I was a teenager. How it got there was a mystery, but I picked it up, avoiding the little man. If I touched him and found he actually had substance, I’d go mental.
He’s just a figment of your imagination, Katherine.
I backed away from the plant and slipped the earring in my pocket.
Then I made for the door.
A quick check in the mirror revealed I was a little paler than usual, but otherwise my appearance was acceptable. I took one last glance at the ficus and sighed. Little, naked green guy was gone.
I yanked open the door.
Geoff stood there with a laundry basket filled with some of my old clothes.
“I thought you weren’t going to let me in,” he said. He ducked to enter, his hair brushing the doorframe. He was a good head taller than me. “Thought maybe you had company.”
I smiled as I closed the door behind him. “Uh, no.”
He dropped the basket on the floor. “I was downtown and thought I’d drop by with some of your things.”
Geoff still lived in our old house on the outskirts of the city.
“And what’s the name of the man that has you downtown on a Saturday morning?” I asked. It was as close to playful banter as I was going to get with him. I chose to ignore the fact he had treated my things so callously.
Geoff tossed his rugby jacket on the futon. “You’ll be surprised when I tell you.”
“Oh god, tell me it’s not some name like Drake or Lance?” From what I understood, Geoff’s life was something of a soap opera.
He made his way to the kitchen, chuckling. “Better,” he said. He paused at the doorway and turned. “It’s Layne.” He slipped out of sight with a flare that was as gay as his coif.
It was interesting he was sharing this with me. Maybe with Mother gone, he felt like he needed family again.
“Not Layne, like Troy’s brother?” I asked, chasing after him. Troy was a previous fling of mine, if he could be called that. He was one of the pool hall regulars. I think he’d been through every woman in the bar before he finally decided to try me. He’s one of those men that wears shitkickers, has a sock stuffed in the front of his jeans, and boasts silver testicles on the back of his truck. It was what I call compensation for what’s lacking between his legs. That relationship lasted all of one date. Okay, maybe two if I count the time I had sex with him in the washroom while under the influence of way too many beers.
When I got around the corner, Geoff was fingering the opened pill bottle on the counter.
His eyes held a hint of concern. “You still taking these?”
I offered an irritated smirk and then took the bottle from his hands, stuffing it back into the cupboard.
I pondered telling him about the plant in the corner. That thought lasted for about a second. Geoff had heard me talk of little people as a child and watched as I went through countless doctors to rid myself of the hallucinations. It hadn’t been easy on any of us. In the end, to my mother’s credit, she’d finally found someone that had been able to find the right med. It had now been seven years since I’d seen the little green man and his friends.
“I got a letter from Mother today,” I said. The change in subject was deliberate, and it seemed to work. Geoff cocked his head just enough to indicate he was intrigued.
I grabbed the note from the coffee table and handed it to him.
His eyes saddened a little. He had wonderful memories of our mother.
I wish I could say the same.
My mother had never been cruel to me. On the contrary, she had been very civil and polite, but her love was never mine to receive. It was a bitter childhood and I’ve often wondered if the hallucinations had stemmed from that lack of affection growing up.
My psychiatrist said I had mother issues.
My psychiatrist also had a way with the obvious.
Geoff read it quickly. “This is my branch.”
“I thought it might be,” I said. He worked as a manager there.
“What could she have left for you so long after her passing?”
I shrugged. I really had no clue.
“Look at the postmark,” he said. “This was sent out yesterday from the lawyer’s office. And the letter is dated for today. She wanted you to get this now.”
I hadn’t really paid attention to those details, but Geoff was right.
“Get your things,” he said. “I’ll take you. It’s still open.”
“Sure,” I said. It was a good reason to get some fresh air and clear my head. “Give me a sec.”
Geoff grabbed his jacket as I slipped into the bedroom. I nudged the door closed behind me. He didn’t need to see the single mattress on the floor I used as a bed or the milk crates I used as a nightstand. I had my pride.
I threw on a ball cap and pulled a team sweater from the clean pile of laundry. I tried to slip my ID into my pocket and realized the earring was still in there.
It was from Aunt Marigold. She had given it to me as a birthday gift long ago — a single, emerald earring. It seemed odd at the time to only receive a single earring, but my aunt was quirky that way. I never really heard much from her after that, with the exception of the customary Yule card and a few letters imploring me to come visit. With no money to make such a trip, I just ignored the latter.
I opened the little wooden box where I kept the trinkets which had some meaning to me and nearly gasped.
Sitting next to a wooden figurine of a fox was the earring I’d had since I was sixteen.
What I held in my hand was its match.

My Review:

This is the first in the new Dark Dynasties series by Castle with five known Dynasties (bloodlines) in the US, "freaking gorgeous" vampires, a Mulo - a gypsy curse, Shades, an unwanted but undeniable desire, a strange mark, a telekinetic power, betrayal, an unlikely romance and wry tongue-in-cheek humor. All make for a wonderfully creative world for this paranormal romance. It reminds me a little of the old TV series Kindred: The Embraced but with a better story line. This grabs you from the first page and the next thing you know you've been reading for several hours immersed in Lily and Ty's world.

With zingers like the following throughout the story, you can't help but chuckle even in the midst of all of the tense action:
"If only she could find a well-educated, Shakespeare-quoting bad boy who still had a thing for sexy tattoos and maybe a mild leather fetish, she might at least have a shot at avoiding her probable future as a crazy old cat lady."
"I'm not the stupid girl who always dies first in horror movies. My boobs aren't big enough."
"You've been really nice. For a vampire kidnapper."
"And I don't have any wooden stakes on me. I'm no Buffy. I'd be toast."
"I won't mutilate your corpse, and I won't fry you. I won't even run up the telephone bill. But you're not tying me up again."

And you just gotta love a story that makes references to both Buffy and Pinhead from Hellraiser.

Lily, the heroine and English lit professor, is plagued by the same nightmare night after night and inexplicably drawn to Ty with unwanted desire even as she's terrified of him.

Ty is a hot 300 year old Scottish cat shifting vampire from the mongrel line, in service to the leader of the Ptolemy line for centuries. He is drawn to Lily and desire flickers in him.

When Lily gives into the pull she's felt for Ty and seduces him on the couch it is so seductive and makes him purr. "It figured that she'd finally met the perfect man for her, and he turned out to be a cat-shifting vampire with issues." "It was the story of her time with Ty moments of bliss, hours of irritation and the occasional life-threatening event."

Ty knew "sleeping with her had been an incredibly bad idea. So naturally, [he'd] gone right for it...Feelings. Oh hell, he wasn't having an attack of those, was he?"

I applaud Castle for putting a description of the Dynasties in the front of the story like a glossary.

I adored this story, was sorry it ended so soon and have put the next in the series on my wishlist already. Fans of the paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampire genres should put this on their wishlist.

My Rating

I really enjoyed this fast moving, exciting romantic suspense story. I thought the chemistry between Dominic and Lexie was believable and sweet. The plot was interesting, and I wasn’t exactly sure what was going to happen next. If I were to list everything that happened to this girl, it would seem over the top. However, while I was reading it, I didn’t feel that way. I also liked the way Lexie kept questioning how ridiculous the events were getting. I thought the author did a great job giving us enough insight into their personalities to make us care about both of the characters. She also described the scenery and atmosphere in Italy with just the right amount of details. I love short stories, and this was a very well written one.

Guest author of Vampire's in America D. B. Reynolds with giveaway!

Please welcome D.B. Reynolds!

Sometimes it’s difficult to remember exactly where my vampires came from. I wrote Raphael late in 2007. His book was my NaNoWriMo project that year. So, even though I did a lot of revisions after that first manuscript, Raphael, and all the other vampires, feel like they’ve been with me, well, forever. It’s sort of the way you remember your parents bringing home a younger brother or sister, but you really can’t remember much of life without them. Although to be fair, I definitely don’t think of Raphael or any of the others in a way that is even remotely brotherly! Like, no way!

I do remember the inspiration for the character of Raphael. It was the scene that ended up being the opening chapter of the book, Raphael, the one with Alexandra, although she wasn’t Alexandra yet. When the scene first popped into my head, it was just this female vampire character who suddenly finds herself betrayed by someone much stronger than she is. She knows she can’t fight him, but, even so, her almost sorrowful response to her betrayer is, “He’ll kill you for this.” She’s completely certain of the outcome and warning her betrayer not to go down that road, even though it’s obviously too late. I wanted to create a character who could inspire that sort of certainty in the female vampire. And that character became Raphael.

So, first and foremost, he had to be incredibly powerful, and he had to be possessive in a way that would drive him to destroy anyone who dared touch someone he cared about. I also knew from the very beginning that while all of my vampire lords would be powerful, Raphael would be the most powerful among them. And that set up the Vampire Council scene in the first book, which established the territorial, aggressive nature of the vampire lords, in that they could barely sit at a table with one another.

After that, the story of Raphael flowed from my keyboard as if I really had known him forever. His intellect, his sexiness, his sexual aggression and dominance. Even when he and Cyn are being playful, he has to be in charge. The other vampire lords have similar qualities. They’re all incredibly powerful, all aggressive and dominant, but some of them have been around humans more than others, and that tempers their behavior. They know how to mimic human behavior, or maybe they choose to mimic human behavior, whereas Raphael deals with humans as little as necessary.

The physical or magical characteristics of my vampires, like their glowing eyes, their special abilities . . . those evolved over time. I knew I didn’t want any of the religious stuff, no crosses or holy water taboos, something I demonstrate very early on when Raphael is taken in by the monastery in his first flashback. And my vamps aren’t risen from the dead, either. They’re infected by a sort of virus, which changes them, and each vampire is individual in the way his or her body responds to the “infection.” Most of them experience only the basic package—virtual immortality (which is very nice), enhanced hearing and smell, speed and strength. But beyond that, they live pretty ordinary lives. But some very few become powerful enough to be vampire lords and that’s who my stories are about, because they’re the most interesting. They’re uniquely and scarily powerful, but they still live among the regular human population with very few people aware of who and what they really are. If humans truly appreciated what walks among them at night, the things the vampire lords could do . . .  But I won’t tell them. Will you?

She cupped her breasts, squeezing and releasing, scraping her fingernails around and around her nipples, until they begged to be suckled, until blood streaked the round perfection of her breasts and drops hung poised on their very tips.  She leaned forward, her hands to either side of his head as she moved, sliding herself up and down his aching cock.  Colin growled, grabbing her hips and holding her in place as he began to thrust upward, delving deeper inside her with every stab of his cock into her welcoming body.  She leaned closer and he fastened his mouth over one breast, sucking hard, tasting her blood on his tongue, feeling it hot and slick as he swallowed. Sophie cried out, her inner walls shuddering around him in warning.  Colin grinned, tightened his grip on her hips, and switched his attention to the other breast, taking it in his mouth and sucking until it was bright pink and swollen.
Sophie had closed her eyes, her body swaying above him as if in a trance.  Colin could feel her orgasm building around his shaft, could feel the tremors in her belly, the tightening of her inner walls as they began to ripple along his cock, caressing him, urging him to give up his seed.  He grunted softly, trying to hold out a little longer, wanting to feel her climax, her wetness soaking his cock and dripping out of her swollen sex.
      “Colin,” she gasped.  “I can’t . . . I can’t last much longer.”

My Review -

A dream lover, dark magic and a growing danger of dark forces consuming everything makes this an intriguing, short, erotic paranormal story that has the reader guessing what is going to happen next. What was refreshing about this particular story was the interesting use of various paranormal creatures that makes your body tingle both from heat and the looming danger.

Valerie has always been in touch with her psychic abilities, but she has never encountered anything like the erotic dreams she has been having with a hot and seductive lover that brings her to orgasms just by his mere touch.

Valerie's dream lover is the ultimate, perfect lover as he fulfills her completely both physically and emotionally, but only in her dreams. Valerie's life is not the most perfect, but at least she was in control up to now. Dark forces are rising and Valerie doesn't know whether her soul will be lost to them and if her dreams of her phantom lover are part of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book not only for the hot scenes (and a dream lover that really knows how to seduce Valerie and get her panting), but also for the plotline that has the reader guessing right to the end.

I was left wanting more and to see a continuation of the story as there are questions that are left unanswered and a delicious dream lover that needs more exploring. Without spoiling anything for the reader let me just say that you will want to see more of this dream lover and learn more about who and want he is.

Warning this book contains BDSM and the use of a sex toy, but the way the author wrote the scenes they were not disturbing but quite sensual and hot. An excellent short read that will have you craving for more.

Cursed Mates is a good paranormal romance read. I enjoyed the Native American aspects of the story and the way the author wrote the curse. While you get a good sexy suspense story I found a few things I didn’t enjoy so much. First let me state I enjoyed Nick he was a good hero and cared about everyone he could. What I didn’t care for was the heroine, Kyla, she was very dramatic at times and while she was portrayed strong, several times she passed out. She also had issues with falling for Nick, so there are several times that they both wouldn’t see each other for long periods of time. I just wish they would have been a little more open with each other, so they could have worked together to take out the villains. When Nick and Kyla are together they have some very hot intense sex scenes. I did get lost a few times or the events weren’t told in their entirety before it went onto something else. Overall this is a good sexy read that I know a lot of you will enjoy very much.

One woman stands at the center of it all…

As undisputed Alpha, Rafael must choose a life mate to preserve the dominance of his Lycan pack. He never suspected, his mate would be a human, the same wounded, girl-woman he seduces from the brink of death. Falon is a dangerous combination of Lycan and Slayer—beings bred to destroy his kind. Even more, she’s a mesmerizing beauty whose sensuality tempts the seasoned warrior to take unnecessary risks. The primal heat between them is irresistible, yet surrendering to it could destroy them both…for a vengeful foe stands ready in the shadows to fulfill what is rightfully his by Blood Law.

It doesn’t matter what romance genre (or name) Ms. Tabke chooses to write: Erotic (Hot Cop Series), historical (Blood Sword Legacy Series), or paranormal (L.O.S.T Series). You can be assured of an intense story with expertly crafted characters that will have you captivated.

Falon always knew she was “different” from everyone else; something inside her just wasn’t right. After running away from a foster home at a young age, she barely survives on her own. Her initial meeting with a Slayer “Conan” is also her first introduction to Rafael. Once Rafael takes care of the Slayer, he takes Falon with him. After all, the slayer wanted her for some reason; she must be important. And thus, the ride begins!

Let’s get this straight….There was nothing – NOTHING – that I didn’t love about this book. It starts out with a bit of background to get the story rolling. How the Lycans and Slayers came to be; their ongoing feud; necessary stuff like that. At times, this is a violent story. The violence plays an integral part of how the characters develop. This is one hot, steamy, sizzlin’ read. The only reason I didn’t give BLOOD LAW the highest sexual rating is because of the almost ménage. (Hey, you’re going to have to read it to find out!) Now, a few of my highlights.

Falon: the growth of this character is astounding! She begins as a weak, fearful girl and develops into a strong alpha; oh, so deserving of her alpha Lycan.

“Complicated?” she shrilled. “You hold my life in your hands and all you can tell me is, it’s complicated?” He stood quiet, unable to defend himself.

“I don’t want to die. I will not die because of your Blood Law. If that messes with your day, too damn bad.”

Rafael, the alpha leader of the Vulkasin clan. He does whatever is necessary for the survival of his clan. Even if it means sacrificing his happiness and the destruction of his chosen one. Rafael is the “light” brother.

Lucien is the outcast; the “dark” brother, alpha of the Mondragon clan. Although he and Rafael are identical twins, it is easy to tell the difference between them: Light and dark, day and night. When Lucien’s chosen one is murdered, he claims Blood Law.

There are concurrent storylines running in BLOOD LAW. The war between the Lycans and the Slayers. The hostility between the brothers. The blooming of Falon and her relationship with Rafael. The survival of the Lycans. All of them are intertwined with one another and turns BLOOD LAW into a howling fantastic novel. Also, there is a bit of knowledge concerning Falon’s heritage that has yet to be discovered, along with what “destiny” has in store for the brothers.

BLOOD LAW does not have your typical HEA, but what it does have will blow you away!

My Review:

Note: This is a Young Adult short story and we don't normally review Young Adult but this was a special request.

If not for it being a little simplistic for most paranormal romance fans and the female lead, Jenna, being but 16, you would not know this is a Young Adult short story.

A dreaded forest, a spectra, a wizard, the Tree of Providence, a magical knife, a lottery for the forced labor of young girls, a curse, a decaying mansion, a pure heart and an unlikely love found make up this paranormal romance for young adults.

The Wraith, "black-robed creature...not human, and not fully a spirit...bound to the forest for eternity" by a curse, is the equivalent of The Beast in the "Beauty and the Beast" tale which has been redesigned over and over again in many different forms - this is one of the better variations.

Nole is the handsome, young wizard of the Village who appears to have thoughts and feelings for Jenna.

For adults, this is a nice sweet love story that can "cleanse the palate" between thrilling and/or stressful and complicated paranormal romance or urban fantasy stories. It is also a perfect story for introducing the 13-19 year old teens and young adults to the wonderful world of the paranormal romance genre.

My Review:

Staked, the first in Edwards' new Time Brokers paranormal romance series, includes vampires, a legend, bounty hunters, time brokers, aliens, "damned vampire voodoo shit", Chakra energy and an unwanted attraction.

As a short eNovella, this story whets your appetite for what is in store in the future for Ava, Mickey, Stone and Lucien.

Ava, a 29th century time traveling, half Karellian half Mortal, bounty hunter, is in the 21st century after a bounty along with Mickey, her apprentice and karate black belt, where she needs to meet up with her new contact while hoping not to run into Lucien, her ex, a full blooded Karellian with excellent tracking skills. He has occasionally stolen a bounty from her as she has stolen his. He plays dirty when it comes to finding and taking in a bounty.

Dexter Stone, Ava's new contact for this bounty, was an unknown and that makes her nervous. When she meets him in the bar, she strongly suspects he is a vampire. Who/what could make her lose her composure and make her want him like that - granted he was very sexy and handsome - but this, and he, was gonna be trouble. She is sure he is using some kind of vampire spell on her, there is just no way she'd feel like this toward a vamp.

At first, as with many novellas, it was a little hard to get into the story with so much going on and so little space to explain it all. But after a few chapters, it drew me in and kept me captivated until the heartbreaking ending. While there is a sensual background to the story, there is no real time during the fast paced action for any of the romance and attraction to ramp up to sex.

While there is no HEA in this story, the stage has been set for a great series and a riveting paranormal romance in future books and novellas. One could also wonder if this might be the "how they met" prequel type novella for a lasting series.

Paranormal romance fans who don't care for Sci-Fi need not worry about the Sci-Fi taking over the story. I think fans of both genres, as well as the vampire genre, will enjoy this.
