Character Interview—Broderick MacDougal

I await Broderick MacDougal—vampire and hero of my debut novel MIDNIGHT CONQUEST. Sitting in the parlor of his fortress, a fire crackles in the hearth, heating my skin. A warm, orange glow flickers along the stone walls and tapestries. The smell of burning wood is heady, soothing, and I can’t resist taking off my shoes.
Gentleman that he is, Broderick does not keep me waiting very long. His six-foot-three frame enters the room, seducing my attention. The corner of his mouth turns up in a smirk. I draw a deep breath to steady my beating heart. Even though I created this guy and he’s constantly in my head, he never fails to get my blood pumping!
His auburn hair shrouds his shoulders and the flames reflect his brassy highlights as he saunters across the room. No, saunters is hardly the word. He glides. With ethereal movements, he stands before me, that tempting dimple creasing his cheek. Cocking a fiery eyebrow, he bends forward, takes my hand and blesses my knuckles with a sensuous kiss that leaves me in a puddle. A warm chuckle rumbles from him and he sits in the vacant chair.

“You’re a rogue,” I accuse. He knows what affect he has on me, and exploits it at every opportunity.

The full smile on his handsome face nearly does me in. Leaning back, he crosses his ankle over his knee and settles in for our interview. “You make it too easy, Arial.” He winks, his deep voice like a drug. Could I possibly melt any more? “You hold the advantage tonight, lass. I must confess, your warning about the topics had me both excited and fearful.” In spite of his words, he maintains his roguish sneer.

“Yes, I have some juicy questions for you to answer, so be prepared to squirm.” I narrow my eyes in a dare.

That same eyebrow rises at my challenge, but he waits for me to begin.

Maybe I’ll be the one who ends up squirming! “Our readers don’t have much time to spare, so I’m diving right in. What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?”

“Two features draw me almost immediately…first, her eyes. I search for that spark of intelligence, a hint of something deeper than her appearance. And then her mouth.” He grins with a dangerous glint as he does just that…gazes at my lips. His deep voice is almost breathy. “Once my eyes go to her mouth, I listen for her heartbeat and her thoughts. If any attraction exists between us, her quickening pulse and forbidden images betray much.”

Yep! You guessed it! My heart’s pattering a mile a minute and he wears the most wicked expression on his face. “You are such a bad boy!”

He tips his head back and his rich laughter fills the room. “’Twas your provocative question, not mine.” He winks again. “Please proceed.” I deliberate over switching to safer questions, but Broderick shakes his head. “Finish what you started, Arial.”
I grumble as soft laughter oozes from his full lips. “Since we’re discussing reading thoughts, nosy…doesn’t it get awfully noisy in there?” I tap my temple with the end of my pencil.
“Inside your head? Aye!”

His laughter drowns out my protests, but he lures me into his amusement. I playfully nudge his knee with my toes.
Roguish smile still in place, he nods. “Aye, at first the noise was difficult to control. I, myself, did not realize how much people think…how many ideas ran through my own head…until I heard the constant rambling of it. I have, over time, learned to quiet the thoughts around me.”

“Being a Gypsy fortune teller for so long, and using your immortal gift to read minds, what advice can you give our readers? What wisdom have you gleaned from this experience?”

Broderick leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Most of my clients were women. Men do not fancy holding hands for a palm reading.” The amusement on his face melts into a softness in his emerald eyes that draws me closer. “I am happy for this opportunity to share my thoughts. Ladies, you are all beautiful, unique creatures. Yet you worry about your appearance and your presentation, and though taking care of yourself is not a fault, you betray your beauty by not being yourselves.”

I’m shocked at the whisper of my voice. “Can you clarify that a bit, Rick?”

He nods. “Many women worry more about what other people think, rather than being true to themselves. They alter their behavior based on how they assume others wish to see them, as opposed to allowing their natural personality to emerge. As such, these beautiful creatures hide behind a mask, so they miss the people who would adore them because they are pretending to be someone they are not.” Broderick sits back and rests his elbows on the arms of the chair, steepling his fingers beneath his chin. “I have seen this behavior enough to near break my heart. One can never find true love if they waste their energy on such fruitless pursuits.”
I’m a little taken aback at the heavy warmth in the atmosphere and in his voice. As usual, Broderick MacDougal gains control in unexpected ways. “You’re a guy who tells it like it is, Rick. I’ve always admired that about you.”

He nods with a hooded gaze and smiles.
“Some of the questions common during most hero interviews don’t apply to you, so I can’t ask them.” I search through my notes to find the ones that do.

“Such as?”

I chortle. “Boxers or briefs?”
He laughs. “Aye, I wear neither. What did you call that?”
“Commando!”

He laughs again. “What other questions?”
“Uh, ok. White, milk or dark chocolate? You drink blood, so I don’t—”

“That does not mean I cannot eat food or do not occasionally partake. I am rather fond of dark chocolate.” That heart-melting dimple emerges beside his lopsided smirk.

I’m a little surprised. After all, he’s my character. “I didn’t know that about you.”

“You never explored that part of me before.” He cocks a challenging eyebrow.

I rise to the challenge. “What’s your favorite erogenous zone on your body?” Ha!

Broderick widens his legs a tad and I can’t help but drop my gaze to his groin. Nor can I stop heat from flaming my cheeks as he slides his hands over those powerful thighs, down between his legs…and…uses the pads of his index fingers to trace the crease where his…ahem…package and legs meet. I dart my eyes back to his, and his wicked gaze, I fear, has not left my face the entire time.
My mouth suddenly dry, I reach for a glass of water on the small table beside my chair. After a long drink, I clear my throat. “What’s—” I squeak and try again. “What’s your favorite color?”
“Sapphire blue,” he responds, almost dreamy.
“Ah, the color of Davina’s eyes.”

“Aye.” He sighs. “’Tis a woman who has stirred my blood like no other. I may toy and tease with you, but there will be no other woman like her.” Broderick crosses his ankle over his knee again and strangely enough, I see color bloom in his cheeks. He shifts in his chair and sports a boyish grin.

“Wow, I wish I could read your thoughts right now,” I tease. “I’m sure they’re about her, judging by the way you’re blushing and the, um…” I try to peer around his knee, but he clasps his hands casually across his lap. “What are you hiding there, Rick?”

Broderick opens his mouth as if to respond, but no words come out. He makes two more attempts to bring forth some witty phrase, but resigns to clamping his mouth shut, a crease marring his brow.
I gasp. “The infamous Broderick MacDougal is speechless. An immortal moment indeed.”

He chuckles. “As you are fond of saying, payback is a bitch.”
That it is! After a tense moment with the air fairly crackling with that oh-so-scrumptious sexuality of his, Broderick rises from his chair, steals my hand and sears a kiss on my palm, piercing me with his sparkling emerald eyes. My heart quickens when his fangs graze the tender skin of my wrist. His tongue darts out to taste my pulse and my breath quickens. Such a tease! “As always, your company is entertaining.” He winks, graces me with that lovely dimple and roguish grin, and glides out of the room…leaving me breathless.
Broderick, however, will be available for questions throughout the week, and so will I. We are both standing by with much anticipation. This is a rare opportunity to speak with Rick, ladies, so be sure to take advantage of it! Until then…

That’s my two pence…
Arial ;)

Midnight Conquest—Blurb

Masked in a Gypsy guise, Broderick MacDougal hides his vampiric identity while seeking to destroy the man who slaughtered his family. When an old Clan rival ensnares Broderick in a trap using an enticing widow, he is compelled to discover if she is bait or an accomplice, and the cinnamon-haired beauty is his next conquest.
Widow of an abusive husband, Davina Stewart-Russell clings to the only image that gave her strength during those dark times—the Gypsy rogue who stole her heart as a youth. After nine years, she is finally face-to-face with him again, but reality clashes with fantasy as she is confronted with Broderick’s passionate pursuit.
When Davina’s past returns to haunt her, Broderick is forced to reveal a dark secret worse than anything Davina thought possible. The challenge before them has fatal risks and neither of them is prepared for the sacrifices expected for the sake of eternal love.
Reader Advisory: This story contains explicit love scenes, described using graphic and direct language. This story also contains explicit, nail-biting scenes of violence and domestic abuse. (Don’t worry…the bad guys get it in the end!)

Cataclysmic Events Are Upon Us

First of Several Interviews by Leda Brandywine

Who, How, Where, When and What Are They?

Werewolf, Beast, and A Man of Legend: Alpha Leader, Remi LeBlathe
“Today I am interviewing Remi LeBlathe, one out of many special beings I will soon introduce to my public, too. Please have a seat, Mr. LeBlathe, and tell me a little bit about yourself,” I speak into the microphone. Next, I start the video camera, pointing to the chair across from me.

The brute of a man paces back and forth before he stops and turns his dark eyes on me. “Do you know how dangerous it is for you to be here right now? This was a stupid idea bringing in humans, exposing them to the danger around us.”

I tap my fingers on the arm of the chair and pray for patience. My gaze moves slowly up this fine piece of man meat before me. God I have to find a man. “I resent that, Mr. LeBlathe. For one, I’m not stupid, and two, I’m certainly capable of protecting myself. Plus I believe Lissa is right; if this war is going to happen what better way to prepare us humans with little interviews, introducing you to them.”

A smile forms on his handsome face, and a bad feeling shivers up my spine. Bones crunch, muscles stretch, fur replaces skin, and a very tall wolf-type beast stands in front of me. “Damn, you promised you would warn me before doing that.” I jump up and invade his personal space, knowing he wouldn’t dare touch me with his mate right outside the door, even though my hands shake.

Jaycee, his mate, has already threatened to neuter him if he doesn’t behave himself. The door behind him cracks open, and I hear the cussing. “Stupid, son of a bitch! Damn it, Remi, didn’t I tell you what would happen if you couldn’t behave?” The very pregnant woman inserts her body in front of mine, poking him in the chest, and then taps her foot. When done with her mini-assault on this monster before us,  Jaycee crosses her arms over her swollen belly and waits.

She glances back at me and winks. “When you edit the interview, you might want to make sure you didn’t catch any of his lower half in it. When his kind shifts, everything is exposed, and they are larger everywhere, if you get my drift.” Jaycee laughs and wiggles her eyebrows, her attention now on Remi’s neither region where my gaze soon follows, yum.

He snarls as he faces away from both of us while he shifts to a human again, all his clothes in place. His attention is once more back on us. Remi eyes shift to  a yellow tint, indicating the beast, then back to a white color on his irises, showing the human side of him. Remi runs his oversized hand over her swollen belly. “Hmm, no one will ever get close enough to my private areas except the ones I love, but…” He sighed. “It seems you just got banned from any activity tonight.”

Jaycee unfolds her arms, gawking at him. “You wouldn’t? It’s been three weeks, Remi!” Her voice cracks when he opens the door and Dane grabs Jaycee and pulls her into his arms.

Remi nods to Dane, who picks up Jaycee and carries her away. Once more Remi’s undivided attention is centered on me,  and the promise of retribution dances in his gaze.

I slowly back toward my chair shaking my head. “Don’t even look at me like that. I have nothing to do with the four of you. Now are we going to start the interview or what? I’ll even erase the last bit if it makes things better.”
The door slams shut by itself, and I swear someone just ran a finger down my cheek. I glance around and slump down in my chair. “Mr.”
“Remi ,please, since it’s obvious you will be staying for a while.” He leans over the chair in front of me, and his gaze holds mine captive until his words sunk in.

“What do you mean I’ll be staying here?” Damn my voice cracks.

“Leda, may I call you Leda?” he asks, his focus on something directly behind me. I search around me, but see nothing. “What are you looking at? And yes, you can call me Leda.”

Again I scan the room, and nothing. “Who’s in the room?” A warm, claw hand brushs against my neck, and I grab the armrest. “Would you please stop touching me!” I am beyond pissed now, and I know my face has blotchy red spots on it like it always does when I’m mad.

Remi nods to the invisible thing in the room. “This is our world also. Right now we are the only ones who can prevent it from being destroyed. We will fight to protect our rights along with the humans rights, but if a human cares to side with the dark side, myself and everyone around me will not hesitate to destroy that person.” He moves around the chair and sits in front of me. “In time you will meet all of us, but for now there are some who will stay hidden, because what your humans see, so will our enemy.”

The door opens and closes on its own. I jump and peek around the room again. “Is it that bad?” I shake my head at the wimpy sound of my voice.

He sits back and stretches his legs out before him. “You, of course, heard of the slaughter on lower Manhattan.”

I slump back in my chair. My mouth has to be hanging open, because everyone in the world knows of the slaughter there. Women, children and men dead, their limbs torn from their bodies, heads on pikes lining the streets. There were a few survivors, but they either couldn’t identify their attackers or they had been too terrified to say.

I nod, the room quiet. I’m afraid to move let alone to say anything as I watch Remi sigh and sit up in his chair, leaning his elbows on his knees as he captures my attention. “I’m not proud to say this, but there are signs that some of my kind, the shifters, and also that of the demon race committed that massacre. If the humans want to survive this war—and it will be a war—the lines have been drawn of evil against good. Potential survivors need to listen and listen wisely. All massive weapons are now gone from Earth. Mother Nature herself, along with other gods, has forbidden their use. They will not see this world destroyed. We fight with our minds and our bodies. We are in the process of setting up camps all around the world, and when the time is right, those who wish to fight will know where to go. That is the end of the interview for now, but…” Remi slowly cocks his head to the side and looks straight into the camara, his gaze that of a fighter. “Be prepared, the stuff of myth will not work against us. Silver bullets will only make our kind mad. Crosses do nothing to Vampires and the same with holy water. How will you be able to tell us apart from the evil ones? Easy, we won’t try and kill you; they won’t give you a warning because they just kill.”

The camera shuts off by itself, and Remi stands, refocusing on me. “As for your earlier question, you are our contact with the government representatives. Lissa has told us that you have access to the higher officials, so you will help us coordinate from here where you can be protected. We are in the process of setting up a pressroom just for you. You will have everything you need, from communications to access to satellites.  If there is something you need all you have to do is ask.”

Remi moves to the door, but stops and looks over his shoulder at me. “Do you have family? Are you married, kids?”

Every hair on my body stands up, my stomach drops to the floor ,and the room starts to spin, but I manage to squeak out a small response. “I have twin boys, who are with my mother. Their father died a year after they were born.” I met his reassuring gaze and knew this man and everyone in this huge complex would lay down their lives to protect me and my family.

He flings open the door. “Uryne!” A mammoth of a man, seven-foot tall with long, blond hair appears before him, frowning.

“You rang?” He crosses his arms over his chest.

Remi shook his head. “Lissa’s friend here has family out there. They need to be brought here now, before…”
“Before they find out about her being here.” His dark green eyes scan me for a minute. “Come, you can talk to Lissa while my warriors and I retrieve your family.” He holds out his hand, and I stand, but glance up at the camera.

“Don’t worry. I will leave everything here and no one will touch it, but you need to show Uryne where your mom is with your children, Leda. Our enemy won’t hesitate to kill them if we don’t bring them here where we can protect them.”

I nod. Suddenly, fear so strong rushs over me like a tidal wave. My legs and hands shake while I turn to see Lissa push her way into the room. “What? I can sense your fear, and it’s not like it was earlier.”
“Seth, Drake and Mom,” I whisper, the interview done and my life in ruins.

Review
Wow. What a fantastic start for a new series and new author. This novel is written in first person. While reading the same scene from each person's point of view can be a bit tiresome, it also adds a level of understanding for each character you would not have gotten otherwise. Julian and Alex's friendship ended years ago when they both loved the same woman, Calista. After her death, they both dealt with loss and guilt. Thirty five years later, Kristin is the reincarnation of Calista. Now the love triangle starts all over again. Through their memories, you feel how much both men truly loved her. Julian's memories of Calista's death are heart breaking. Now Kristin is faced with trying to sort through her feelings and everything she has learned to choose between the two. Have you ever wondered if you could go back and experience a major event in your life again, if you would make the same decisions? The answer to that question is what Julian and Alex both want and fear.

In the meantime, they still have to try to keep Kristin safe from the vampire intent on ridding the world of all female vampires/half breeds. I will openly admit I did not see the ending coming. I was surprised and I'm still processing how I feel. That is a sign of a good book! I can not wait to read the next one.

I lick my lips at the man before me: Hair the colour of milk chocolate. Not too long. Not too short. Aqua blue polo shirt with buttons undone. Stonewashed jeans pulled taut by the thigh muscles encased within. And navy eyes so dark they appear almost violet.
He’s sitting across from me.
Me.
All six foot-three of him, folded into a seat that seems suddenly insubstantial.
James.
::sigh::
Anyone who knows me knows I have a MEGA soft spot for James, housemate to Little White Lies Charley Randall.
He’s big. He’s strong. He’s brotherly. He’s caring. He’s protective. He’s big. He’s strong. He’s considerate. He growls. He’s big …
::sigh::
What the flip is there not to love?
And he’s sitting here. Staring at me.
::sigh::
So you want me to ask him a damn question then?
::sigh::
Okay.
“Um … hi ... um ... James. Thanks for coming.” Well that came out smooth.
He nods in my direction. “Hi.” His tone coats me from head to toe in warmth. I want to snuggle and cuddle right in with him.
“Why don’t you tell me a little about what you are? Mimic is the correct term, right?”
He folds his hands in front of him. “Mimic is the correct term, yes. What do you want to know about me? There is, of course, only so much I can say.”
“Well, I have a good idea of Charley’s abilities but what about you? Just what are you capable of?” I wiggle my eyebrows because if he can do anything Charley can, that’s going to be a little ... fun.
A wry smile appears to light up his face. “Charley and I are pretty much the same only she's female, and I'm male. On the Mimic spectrum, we'd be perfection for each other, yet neither of us is.”
“Do you ever get up close and personal with the assignments the team gets called in for? Or do you always work mostly behind the scenes? What’s the most bizarre task you’ve ever been assigned as a Mimic?”
He offers a small chuckle that makes me want to lap him up like kitten to a bowl of milk. “Charley and Cael are always 'close and personal' with every assignment. I like being behind the scenes where what I do affects how they can perform. It's also always a really good idea to have a backup and while I can exactly backup Charley, I can Cael.”
“As for most bizarre task...” He taps one finger against another. “Ever had your two best friends walk into a harem? Charley went in search of a woman who claimed she'd joined for book writing research purposes. She ended up not coming back. Her husband called the FBI. The FBI got us involved. All we had to do was go look. That was it. Simple in and out job. Turned out there was a lot of 'in and out' if you get what I mean.” The wink sends a shiver through me. “And I watched it all while walking next to Charley as her body guard. That's one where Lily had to go, too. Cael wasn't too happy about that, but he dealt with it.”
“You have a pretty close knit relationship with your housemates. Which of them are you closest to?”
A small shrug comes through from big shoulders. “Charley’s been my best friend for decades. She always will be. She's a sister I never had.” A soft sigh escapes
“I noticed you seem pretty ‘tight’—sometimes even beyond tight—with Charley. Any history there you’re willing to divulge? You and she ever … you know?”
His eyes open wide. “You noticed? Well damn. It shows that much? As for the 'her and I ... ever?’” He shakes his head. “No. We're not the right match ... um ... combination of genetic materials — for there to be anything romantic between us. She's just everything I'd want in the one to blend with. Men and woman don't have to be—” A deep blush coats his cheeks. “... 'you know' to care deeply for each other. Especially Mimics. We're 'programmed' a little different than most.”
Man, he is cute when he blushes. I cough into my fist to prevent my unsaid words from getting through my lips.
“So … where was I? Um … yeah, women in general—I also noticed some tension between you and Maggie. Care to share? What’s the deal between you two?”
“What's the deal? One and only one word: Chase.” His arms cross over his massive chest.
I’ve been fantasizing about what’s under that Tshirt since the moment our chat began. Another cough puts my human female emotions under wraps. “You think the two of you will ever … you know … work things out?”
“As she likes to say, "when hell freezes over" then again, Maggie's been known to thaw hell, so ... who knows?”
“We already touched on your closeness with Charley. How will it affect you long-term, having to live without her? Do you ‘approve’ of Wyatt? Coz, gender aside, all ‘best friend’s have an opinion on the ‘potential one’, right?”
His chuckle comes with a giant smile. “Yes, I approve of Wyatt. I did 16 years ago, too. He's a really good guy. Always has been. If I didn't think that, I wouldn't have gotten us involved in the Montreal OP that brought them back together.” His hands cover his lips. “Oops. Did I say that out loud?”
The wink and sarcastic tone says he just gave something away. Had I not read Little White Lies already, I might not have caught it.
He continues, “As for living with out her? It's weird. But that's part of our life. We know what to expect ... it's just when it will happen that surprises us.”
“So … things have changed a little for you with everything that’s happened—what do you think your future holds? Where do you see yourself in five years time?”
“In five years?” He scratches at the late evening stubble on his chin. “Can't imagine much will change ... except—” His eyes open wider than before. “Geez. Chase will be a teenager.” His head drops into his waiting hands. “That's not good. Not good at all.” He stands as if to leave. “You know? I think I need to get a drink.”
That thought alone would drive me to drink, too.

There’s only one man she trusts to pull her back from the brink: a tuner who can retrieve the evidence hidden deep in the recesses of her mind. A man she dares not let too close to her heart.

All he can do, as he helps her plan her final mission, is ease her pain, watch her back…and hope one of them doesn’t pay with their lives.

Sexual Rating:

Review:

I am a huge fan of futuristic sci-fi stories, so I was very excited to be able to review this novella.

The story opens up with Plix, a young woman that's had numerous enhancements done to her, hurt and alone. She makes her way to Edison, a geeky, but lovable tuner. The sexual tension between the two main characters is evident from the first moment they appear together. I loved the way the two interacted with each other. Both pining for the other, but can't (won't) reveal their true feelings for one another. As the story progresses and the dire situations Plix is in are revealed to the reader, the connection between the two characters becomes stronger and more evident as Plix is required to lean on Edison more than ever. Mrs. Grey did a wonderful job of creating two characters that truly suited one another, but were both too caught up in their own mission to admit it.

Upon reaching the end of the story, I was really wishing there was more. I wasn't ready to leave that world behind. You can't help but feel for Plix as she sacrifices herself and everything she holds dear in life to help bring down the monsters that are making her world unbearable.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants a good, romantic, futuristic story.

My review-

Generally, I am not a fan of werewolf novels. Most of the time, werewolves have been villains in other stories. It seems that they started gaining some popularity as romantic lead-ins after the "Twilight" series came out. As I am not a fan, my view point never really changed and I admit that I tended to avoid many werewolf stories. Those I did read (or in the case of movies: watch), were mingled with their lifetime struggle with vampires; ie. Underworld, Van Helsing, etc.

"A Wolf's Duty" may have me re-thinking that thought process. Instead of your typical werewolf story, Tobias and the other wolves in the story are not a clan of wolves infected by lycanthropy, cursed to live their lives based on the faces of the moon. These wolves are more like shapeshifters, which was an intriguing concept alone. Add into the mix a realistic heirarchy amongst the clans, or packs, my interest was definitely piqued.

I enjoyed Alli's telling of Tobias' journey to find his true mate, which leads him to Alex. What I liked most about Alex, as a character, was that she wasn't too strong, nor was she too focused on what could be perceived as her many shortcomings in comparison to Tobias. There's a good balance between the romance and acceptance of who they are and their relationship to one another. There are not many erotic scenes between them, but those that are there are very hot.

If you are looking for a good paranormal romance, you'll enjoy "A Wolf's Duty" and I recommend it. When I began reading it, I devoured 3/4 of the book in a short period of time. This is only book one in a trilogy and I look forward to moving onto the next story in the series.

Character Interview: Julian Castille

1. Tell us a bit about who you are and more importantly, what you are.

The name’s Julian Castille. I’m the oldest of three brothers—the others being Jaxon and Jagger—and yes, I guess my mother liked the letter J. Up until recently I ran our families company, Blue Heaven Industries, but then a bunch of shit happened and well, let’s just say I’m not really cut out for civilian life anymore.

What am I? Good question because sometimes I have no clue. Technically I’m a shape shifting jaguar and can trace my family lineage back to the era of the Aztec’s. But ah, after spending six months in hell I’m definitely a new kind of animal.

2. Are you close with your brothers?

Blood means everything to a Castille. I would die for my brothers and I know they would do the same. But do we have tea and cookies together? No.

3. Your brothers are warriors and yet I’ve read that you’re not. Can you explain?

Jaguar Warriors are a certain breed of shifter. Clan tattoos choose us when we’re young men and, well, Jaxon and Jagger both developed them. I did not. Sure they might be a little stronger or faster than me, but as far as I’m concerned the tattoos don’t mean shit. Besides, my woman has them and one warrior in a relationship is more than enough.

4. Ah, yes Jaden DaCosta. Can you tell us a bit about her?

What’s to tell? She’s one hell of a woman, a jaguar warrior in her own right and I thank god every day that she’s in my life. Without her I’d go mad and I don’t mean that figuratively….I mean it in a literal sense.

5. I know you’ve both had to deal with a lot of crazy stuff lately and I’m not sure what happened with your friend Declan O’Hara. Is he all right?

I haven’t seen Declan since Vegas. He and I…well, we both survived hell but unfortunately, his demons are still following him. I just hope he finds what he needs to survive before it’s too late.

Q. Too late?

He’s headed down a dark road and ah, he’s lost hope. So yeah, I’m concerned for him.

Q. What do you and Jaden do for fun?

You really want me to answer that? We’re basically newlyweds so you know, I’m still trying to get to know her and don’t take this the wrong way but I’d rather keep the personal shit out of this interview.

Q. Sure, sorry. So, you didn’t go back to the family business. What do you do now?
I hunt and kill the crap that would hurt the ones I love. The ones I call family. Jaden and I live in Mexico but we’re very much aware of the fragility that hangs over the human realm. Something dark is coming and without us, you humans have no hope.

Q. That sounds ominous. Can you elaborate?

If I did, I’d have to kill you and on that note I need to run.

Q. All right. Thanks for the convo.

An Interview with Darkness & Light’s Ethan Holloway (by Aimee Laine).

A while ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Sean! (yes, with the !) from Darkness & Light, to pick his brain about ... well ... himself. Today, I find myself standing here behind Sean's brother, Ethan, the man of mystery that every woman on the planet wants to get to know.

Why is that?

Well, first, we all know he's a werewolf. Secondly, at least as I walk into this coffee shop to get my hot chocolate, I know he's single.

That means I have a shot, right?

What?

I'm married?

Well, damn. Now what's my excuse for what I'm about to do?

A balance from foot to foot and I have an idea, 'cause I know he'll help out a girl in need ...

"Oh! Look out!" The contents of my purse fall all over the floor. I kneel down to pick them up, as Ethan turns and...

He rolls his eyes. “Really, lady, you ought to be more careful.” He scoops up my purse and waves it under my nose. “This thing weighs a ton and it nearly smacked me in the head.”

I, of course, expected that gesture. As I take the bag from him, my hand inadvertently (ok, read that 'on purpose') slips and it tips over again. Every bit of my money flies out—all of the hundred pennies I've been saving up sliding along the floor.

His gorgeous, muscular hands start picking them up one by one. As a few other patrons do the same, I glare them off. I have 100 pennies to get a few questions in before he figures out my ruse. Unless he has already.

Go, go, go! my inner teenage girl says.

"So ... um ... it's Ethan, right? You're Sean's brother?"

His head snaps up and his eyes narrow. “Do I know you?”

"Uh ... well ... not really. But, you see, I met Sean once, and he talked about you a little." I lean to pick up a penny. "He kinda said you'd be too chicken to talk to a writer about your life." I bite the side of my lip ... "Are you ... willing? Maybe just ... like ... five questions?"

“You have a lot of spunk—sneaking up on me this way.” He drops to one knee and collects a handful of coins before he freezes and looks up. “Sean said I was what?” He shakes his head. “Cheeky little runt.” Three more pennies find their way into his hand. “Five questions?” His dark eyes seem to intensify as he stares hard at me. “I’m a busy guy. You have five minutes.”

"Yes!" Oops. I said that out loud.

His eyebrow shoots up.

"We'll do them right here in line and I'll buy you coffee."

“Yeah, whatever. But”—he smiles—“it’ll cost you a burger, too.”

Ooh, they don't have burgers at this place, maybe I'll get more time with him. "Suuure … so … Redhead or brunette?" I tap my dark hair.

He straightens to his full six-five height. “What’s hair got to do with anything?”

I slap his bicep, a rigid muscle that flexes under his T-shirt. "Hair, Ethan? What would you go for? Women want to know what you'd want in ... them."

He peers down at the spot I assaulted him then back to me. “A female is a female. What are you? A rep for the local dating agency? Did Jem put you up to this? There is nothing wrong with detached physical contact with another consenting adult.” He grumbles beneath his breath—words too low for me to decipher—and shakes his head.

"And what about hobbies ... outside of ... you know ... sniffing stuff ... what else do you like to do? Jog? Paint? Bowl? What do you do for fun?"

“Too easy.” He shrugs. “Hunt. Run. Basketball.”

"Oh, c'mon, Ethan. Give me one morsel, one tidbit, one little hidden shining thing about yourself. Tell me your deepest darkest secret.

"Like ... who was your first?" I offer him a wink hoping that will lighten him up.

“First what? Kiss? Bed partner? Though I doubt Chloe Newton could be considered a bed partner.” He snorts. “Not when we did the dirty in her dad’s potting shed whilst he was at the local horticulture show.” He chuckles, rubbing a hand across his jaw. “Dad bust my hide when I got in stinking of … you know.”

"Um, yeah ... that." My entire train of thought has been shot thanks to the first bit of silliness I've ever seen in Ethan. "Okay ... so ... yeah ... clearly you've got a sneaky side in ya. Tell me one thing your Dad hasn't caught you doing ... yet."

Amusement lightens his brown eyes as he leans in close. “You can’t tell a soul, but … me and Kyle went out the one night. Picked up a couple females. We were in someone else’s territory so we couldn’t just wander around the streets, you get me?” He tucks his hands into his pockets. “Anyway, even trying to avoid the ‘locals’ we managed to run into one. Some fugly bastar—” He winced. “Sorry—some moron who wanted to squeal to his Alpha that we’d crossed the line without their pack’s permission. So I took him down an alley for a friendly chat. He changed his mind.” His smile borders on smugness. “Dad never found out we weren’t where we supposed to be.”

"You sly dog, Ethan. Pun intended." I mirror his grin with my own. Seeing as how we've collected all the pennies on the floor, I figure I ought not push my luck for me. "Okay ... one more and I'll leave you be .... If you were ever in a fight with a vampire ... would you win?"

“Well … I’ve never lost a fight yet.” He stares hard at me, his eyebrow quirked up. “So what do you think?”
