New Author spotlight with Mina Khan

Photobucket

Please welcome Mina Khan!

Would you tell us a little about yourself?

MK: I worked as news journalist for fourteen years (both in the newspaper and television industries). Now I daydream about hunky paranormal heroes, magic, mayhem and mischief and write them down as stories. Between stories, I teach culinary classes and write a food column for my local newspaper. Other than that, I’m raising a family of two children, two cats, two dogs and a husband.
Also, I grew up in Bangladesh on stories of djinns, ghosts and monsters. These childhood fancies now color my fiction.
You can find me at:

How long have you been writing?
MK: Lol, all my life! My first poem was published when I was in the third grade J

What is your first published book?
MK: The Djinn’s Dilemma, a paranormal erotic romance from Harlequin Nocturne’s new Cravings line, was published in November 2011. SQUEE!

Why did you choose to self-publish?
I’m actually considering self-publishing my second djinn story to help raise funds for women’s education, a cause close to my heart.

What was the first thing you did when a publisher let you know your book was accepted to be published?
MK: Being a reporter, I had to write all the details down, hang up, review my notes and scream.

Who/what is your writing muse?
I am a reader first, and then a writer. My writing muses are other writers who make me fall in love with their stories – to name a few: Marjorie M. Liu, Patricia Briggs, Carol Berg, J.D. Robb.

What is one piece of advice you would give aspiring writers, other than to not give up?
Trust yourself.

What are you working on next?
I am finishing up the edits on the second djinn story, “The Tale of Two Djinns,” which is a Romeo & Juliet story with djinns, feminists, and a happy ending. And, yes I’m already working on the third djinn story. J
