Review Storm's Fury by Nya Rayne
Title: Storm's Fury
Author: Nya Rayne
Source: Request review
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: short novel
Sometimes the very thing you've run from all your life is the one thing that can save you.
A street-wise hustler, Stormy has been running most of her life from the creature that killed her family. However, when she meets Fury, a being so stubborn he could give a mule lessons, running is no longer an option. When he claims he’s her protector and the other half of her soul, Stormy would rather take her chances with the beast chasing her.
His dogged determination to protect her and his seductive expertise spark to life dreams she’d all but given up on: dreams of belonging to a family, and of having a life where running is nothing more than exercise. But with vile creatures hunting her, demanding her blood, and pack members who want her head instead of her help, Stormy will have to find away to place her trust and heart in Fury’s care. If she can’t, then neither of them will have a future to dream about.
I wanted to connect with the story but I just couldn't relate to the characters and was a bit confused by the mythology. Shortly after the halfway point, I finally started to get into the story and had a chance to enjoy Fury and Stormy's courtship. Storm's Fury showed me the creation of a interesting new world filled with Egyptian mythology. I have a feeling this is the start of a series and hope that I can better relate to characters introduced in the future.

Fury is an Anubi, made
in the likeness of Anubis, god of darkness and death. With the powers
to control the minds of animals, wield fire, and transform into a jackal
and water elements he's a pretty awesome power to be reckoned with. He
and his fellow Anubi were created to usher the souls of the dead to the
underworld, but when Anubis' wife ordered her own minions, the Yazaron,
to kill her husband their sole purpose on earth became to protect
Anubis' human offspring. As punishment for killing Anubis, the
Yazaron, were cursed to spend eternity with decaying bodies caught in
the shape between jackal and man. The only cure for their plague is to
consume the bodies of Anubis' descendants. The female descendants also
have the potential to be soul mates to the Anubi. So, out of duty and
the chance of true love the Anubi have been struggling for thousands of
years to kill all Yazaron.
Stormy has been living on the streets since she was 17. Constantly on the run from a unknown presence that lives in the shadows, she can't stay in one place for more than three weeks. Since living in one place for such a short time cuts down job prospects she's taken to a life of crime. While fleeing her most recent money making scheme she runs into Fury and the soul binding is immediate. She goes into a trance and wakes up at Fury's house with no memory of how she got there or understanding of the connection she has to him.
In the midst of tracking down his treacherous clan mate the last thing Fury needs is a hot-headed soul mate thrust on him, but once a connection takes place he can't let her go. If a 'chosen descendant' doesn't accept her Anubi his body will shut down and he eventually dies.
Misplaced trust, betrayal, and a three day time period to get his chosen to accept him; Fury is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Can Stormy overcome her need to run? Can Fury get past his need for revenge? These two have a road to travel.
The romantic tension between Stormy and Fury was well written but so frustrating. He was so evasive about answering her questions. I could understand if it was some kind of code that he wasn't allowed to divulge too much information to his "chosen mate" but there was no such rule. It was like he was being elusive just to be annoying. I'm all about alpha guys in books but Fury pushed it. He's been living around humans since ancient times but he has no tact while trying to woo Stormy. Heck, I don't even think woo is in the guys vocabulary. A master of words, he is not. For all of Fury's faults he was evenly matched with Stormy. She's had a tough life. With her family dying at a young age and little prospect of her perfect "dream life" she turned a bit bitter. Alright, understatement, a lot bitter. To quote Storm's viewpoint on survival, "When life gives you lemons...you squeeze the lemons in the eyes of the first patsy that comes along, and take what you need from him..."
