Whatever you think about Fifty Shades Of Grey, it cannot be argued that its success has brought, not just romance, but super-steamy / erotic romance into the limelight. Something that was closet is now mainstream.

As an independent author, I have to say that I’ve noticed a difference in attitude and my readership since that book was picked up by commercial publishers. Friends and acquaintances, who would never have asked about my books before, suddenly are asking.

When I wrote The Witching Pen (paranormal romance) one year ago, the fact that I wrote sex scenes in a book that would otherwise have been mainstream, simply counted it out of the running for any kind of acknowledgement from general readers. Now… there’s never been a better time to be an independent author. One by one, self-published authors are finding themselves picked up by big publishers, but more than that, they are finding that their readership is growing because of a new acceptability and accessibility within the mind and public consciousness, that wasn’t there before.

Laurie’s upcoming Indie Romance Convention is another example of how now is the time to be independent, if you were ever going to try.

From The Witching Pen (book one of The Witching Pen Novellas) to this third book out today, The Demon Bride, my writing life has been one fast-paced, amazing journey that I hope continues to grow stronger every day.

Interview with paranormal romance author Jacqueline Rhoades

I'm super excited to introduce you to one of the best new authors I've found this year.   Please welcome Jacqueline Rhoades!

Would you tell us a little about yourself?

First off, I want to thank you for having me. I truly am thrilled to be here. It's a scary thing to put your work out there for the first time and your review made me feel welcome. My sales have grown steadily and that's certainly a positive reinforcement, but reader comments have been few. Your review and those of a few others mean more than I can say.

Now about me. Where to begin? Let's see. I'm older than I ought to be. Where did those years go? I've fallen in love over and over, fortunately with the same man; my husband, who tolerates my craziness, brings me coffee every morning and still makes me laugh. I have a degree in Biology, but must have slept during the human reproduction lecture because I ended up with five kids in rapid succession. What was I thinking? I now work in a public school with Middle School kids. Again, what was I thinking?

My husband and I live in a rural area of Ohio and we've camped in most of the contiguous forty-eight states (Hotel in Hawaii, Yeah!). I wish I could list all the exciting things I've done, but most of my adventures happen in my head. Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't change my life for love nor money and now I get to do what I always dreamed of doing and never thought I would. I am the luckiest of women.

Gosh, I hate this question. That’s why I’m a writer. I get to make stuff up about others J. How about…I’m old enough to have figured out what I finally want to be when I grew up and still young enough to believe I can make a difference, to someone or something.

Do you have a hobby?

A what? LOL. With a hubby, four kids and a moody cat, I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies. What time I do have, I write! Although…I am somewhat obsessed with decorating.

When you're writing do you listen to music? If so, what are some of your favorite artists/albums/songs to write to?

Actually, when I’m writing, I like silence. Well, white noise is OK, but I’ve found music just too distracting. I know. I’m probably in the writer minority, right?
